Hawk Tuah Hailey Welch sued over $50m meme coin debacle

Viral Internet sensation Hailey Welch, known for her “Hawk Tuah” interview, is facing a lawsuit after investors lost thousands of dollars in another botched celebrity Solana coin launch.

The “Hawk Tuah girl” may have to speak to a judge whenever she finally wakes up.

US law firm Burwick Law has filed a federal lawsuit against Hailey Welch and three others behind the lackluster Hawk Tuah Solana coin launched in early December.

Welch became a prominent social media influencer after a viral interview in which she described some intimate relationships. A few months later, she and her team, the Tuah the Moon Foundation, in partnership with OverHere Limited, Clinton So and Alex Larson Schultz, aka Doc Hollywood, released a meme piece inspired by her popular phrase “Hawk Tuah.”

Like many Solana (SOL) celebrity launches, HAWK skyrocketed immediately after its debut and peaked at a market cap of $500 million. A few minutes later, the token fell by 90% and fell below $50 million. The token was trading at a market cap of less than $8 million at press time.

Outraged investors and data providers quickly discovered that the HAWK token was heavily bundled. Team wallets believed to be linked to Welch and other insiders held 96% of the coin supply.

The controversy reached a new height when observers discovered that these wallets were selling large quantities of HAWK’s products, although Welch claimed that she and her team still held them.

Burwick Law has encouraged HAWK buyers to file formal complaints with the company amid the controversial fallout. The company’s lawsuit named four defendants, including Welch, OverHere, So and Doc Hollywood, and named 12 U.S. residents as plaintiffs with $151,000 in collective losses. Burwick has filed several lawsuits against celebrities for flipping coins that allegedly became exit scams and rug draws.

On December 17, two days before the federal complaint was filed, OverHere placed the blame on Doc Hollywood, saying the entity had gained nothing from the launch.

OverHere admitted its silence was a bad decision and insisted the company’s mistake was trusting the wrong partners. Doc Hollywood has locked his X account since the social media brawl and has apparently gone into hiding.

Welch, the Hawk Tuah girl herself, has been MIA since her appearance during an X Spaces live event on December 5. His attempts to address carpet removal rumors were met with angry shoppers who wanted answers.

In response, Welch said, “Anyway, I’m going to bed and see you tomorrow.” Fourteen days later, Welch remains unavailable and requests for comment sent to his team have gone unanswered.
