Argentina Launches LIBRA Token Investigation

The LIBRA token came under fire earlier this year. Reports link it to a rug pull scam that cost investors around $107 million. Some reports also suggest a connection to President Javier Milei, adding more weight to the controversy.

In a tense session, lawmakers voted 128–93 to form a commission to probe the case. They also approved a move to summon top government officials for questioning. This includes Economy Minister Luis Caputo and Justice Minister Mariano Cúneo Libarona, among others.

A third resolution demands the Executive Branch submit detailed reports about the token. Lawmakers passed it with 135 votes in favor and 84 against.

Debate in the chamber revealed deep divisions. Deputy Karina Banfi said investigators had already started their work and urged for stronger laws to directly help citizens. Others, like Nicolás Mayoraz, argued that Congress was overstepping into the judiciary’s territory.

Gabriel Bornoroni, a leading government ally, accused opposition members of using the scandal for political drama.

Meanwhile, reports say Judge Sandra Arroyo Salgado is also looking into Milei’s assets. The anti-corruption office has opened a separate investigation as well.

The LIBRA issue has taken a toll on Milei’s image. Once seen as a crypto advocate, he now faces serious questions about transparency.
